In the Steps of Queen Tamar: Turkey & Georgia (with an extension to Armenia)

Our journey across two (or three if you join the etxtension) countries takes in an incredible variety of highlights. Northeastern Turkey can rightly boast some wonderful cities and sights: the small town of Amasya, the incredible mosque in Divrigi and the long abandoned Armenian capital of Ani. Crossing into Georgia brings us to an area linked with the fables of Jason and the Argonauts, a land that even today delivers on its promise of a warm welcome, incredible food and wonderful sites: the frescoes of the Academy at Gelati, and the cave chapels of Vardzia immediately spring to mind. Tbilisi has always been regarded as THE capital of the Caucasus, offering a lovely river setting, and ancient churches. The east of Georgia is famous for its wine and important monasteries. For those wanting to continue on the extension, we are catching the overnight train to Yerevan. The Armenians claim two distinct historical facts: descent from the Urartians, and being the first country to adopt Christianity. As a result, the country has some fascinating early churches, as well as Urartian remains. Click on the link below to see the itinerary. This tour is now confirmed and there are two places currently available.
