Rufus Reade Tours

Rufus Reade led his first tour to Eastern Turkey in 1987. He has been running tours every year since then: destinations have included Ethiopia, Cyprus, Morocco, Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Pakistan, India, Bhutan, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
Our themes have included wildflowers, birds, painting, history and general interest. We are lucky to have worked with wonderful lecturers: these have included Dr Crinan Alexander from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh; Eleanor White founder and director of the Bridge House Art School, Ullapool; Tony Verity classical historian; Bruce Wannell, historian, researcher and writer; and Mike Betts as our guest birder.

2009

Following the Mekong - through Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, with guest lecturer Peter John Meynell, and Rufus Reade.

Eastern Bhutan - monasteries and birdwatching, with guest birder Mike Betts and Rufus Reade.

Georgia - spring in the Caucasus with Rufus Reade

Central Turkey - ancient capitals and the cradle of anchorite Christianity with Rufus Reade.

2010

Syria: an opportunity to paint among the ruins with guest painting tutor Eleanor White, and Rufus Reade.

Armenia: the history of the Armenian people has been punctuated by invasions and a triumphant Christianity: this tour concentrated on the rich history of church building. Led by Rufus Reade.

2011

Ethiopia: churches and birds with Mike Betts as our guest birder.

Western Turkey: an astonishingly rich area full of classical sites, often in stunning surroundings. led by Rufus Reade.

2012

Sri Lanka: birds and archaeology with Mike Betts as our guest birder.
