Jordan offers the visitor such an incredible breadth of history: from its many Biblical associations, to its important role during the First World War. From the very beginnings of the Nabateans as seen at Petra, to the important Roman ruins at Jerash. The landscape varies from the spectacular desert around the Wadi Rum, to the austerity of the Dead Sea, from Mount Nebo with its views into ‘The Promised Land’ to the quiet River Jordan creeping past its reed-filled banks. It is impossible to travel in this land without thinking of the characters who shaped its history: Moses led his people here, and in modern times T.E.Lawrence stirred the embers of Arab nationalism. The Crusaders left us their castles, and other dynasties have left significant buildings, many of them in wonderful settings. In modern terms Jordan sits as a moderating influence between its neighbours, enjoying an open dialogue with both Israel and its Arabic brothers. Visitors are assured a warm welcome, with comfortable hotels and delicious food. Our theme is broadly historical and archaeological, with a chance to see something of the landscape, and the crafts.
